The Tickles

With a last name of TICKLE we're under extreme pressure to be REALLY fun-loving, funny, and in general, fun to be around.  Before we go any further, you should know we take this inherited duty very seriously!

We met at a magical place called the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center in 2010 and became inseparable in 2011 after a being set up for a surf date.  Southern California has been home for the past 10+ years for Sam and just under four for Julie.  We've truly enjoyed our funky slice of SoCal surf-bum heaven but it's time for a new adventure.

Julie grew up outside of balmy Buffalo, NY having snowsuit-clad picnics, beating the neighborhood kids at any sport, and catching frogs.  She was a two sport athlete and all-american in college and spent over five years working for the US Olympic Committee coordinating logistics of camps and events.

Now she can be found high-fiving trees, flowers, and anyone she can reach while riding her bike, snowboard, and surfboard.  She's passionate about helping others, baked-goods, animals of all shapes and sizes, dancing, and finding beauty in nature.   jtickledesign.com

Sam is the son of tree nursery owners and if you ask him, he spent every waking hour as a kid digging holes and mowing the fields of Pennsylvania.  His love of sports and desire to spread his wings took him to USC (Go Gamecocks!) for college where he played club volleyball and began his dedicated military career as part of the ROTC program.  His first passion in the Navy was flying helicopters (which he did for 11 years) and now he leverages those experiences in his role with Team Semper Fi, which uses sport as a recovery tool for injured, ill, and wounded service members.  You might also recognize him as the stud in an EAS documentary called the Unstoppable Tour, which aired on ESPN and highlighted proper nutrition while living an active lifestyle.

Grommet (Grom) is by far the brains of the Open Space Small Place operation and has her humans well trained.  Her name comes from a slang term coined for little shaggy-haired kids that shred. She's a natural trail dog and alert flock guardian.  Even though she is often mistaken for a goat, sheep, or hyena, she's a darn cute mutt in our eyes...except maybe when she rolls in something foul.

Our Mission

We aim to slow things down, make new connections, and gain a better appreciation for the little things in life.  In sharing our experiences we hope to inspire others to do the same.
